How to...
Understand RaceMaster98 Data Files

RaceMaster98’s data is spread between three files:

The Competitor File (.ssc extension)

This contains the personal details of every competitor that you have ever entered into any meeting in RaceMaster98. Once details are entered the competitor can be entered into subsequent meetings. Before starting to enter real competitors, create a new competitor file with a name that refers to your club or organisation rather than the particular meeting. This file will grow over time and under normal circumstances should be the only one you will ever need. If you do not create a new file your competitors will be added to SampleCompetitors.ssc which also contains thirty or so fictitious competitors.

The Club File (.sst extension)

This contains the names and abbreviations of the clubs to which competitors are assigned. Again create a new file of your own before you start entering real competitors. New files will contain the same clubs as the sample file RMClub.sst to start off with.

The Meeting File (.ssm extension)

This contains the details of a particular meeting and the events within it. Create a new one of these for each meeting you wish to create results for. Meeting files can only be edited by the registered user who created them this applies to any installation of the software activated by the same user name and registration code.

To find out what files are currently used by RaceMaster98 use the 'Help \About RaceMaster98' menu item and then press the 'File Details' button or use the 'File Details' menu item from the tools menu. The first three files on the list are the data files and are the ones which should be copied when transferring the data to another computer. These files can be opened over a network and allows multiple copies of RaceMaster98 to access the same data at the same time.

To transfer these files from one computer to another use the Windows Explorer to copy them to a floppy disk, network drive or attach them to an email. On the receiving computer copy them to a suitable location on the hard disk and open each in turn using the 'File/Open' menu item. It is not advisable to use the 'File/Save As' menu item to copy these files as this not only copies the file but also sets it as the currently used file and it is not a good idea to use a floppy disc for this.
