After 25 highly successful years York Knavesmire Harriers decided that, in order to improve the quality of service offered to runners, the Brass Monkey Half Marathon 2009 should use chip timing. This was a huge step for us, with all the usual reservations about something new and what happens if it all goes wrong! Well we certainly shouldn't have worried as the decision to work with Sports Systems (Northern) Ltd. and the Ipico electronic chip proved flawless.

Preparation before the event was smooth and we received all the advice that we required. Chips were issued to the 1600 runners on the morning of the event and as the runners crossed the finish line the Sport Systems computer was posting the results on the internet and giving us printed copies. This enabled us to deploy our marshals and helpers elsewhere and we have never had our results so quickly and efficiently!

I would unreservedly recommend Sports Systems (Northern) Ltd. to any race organisers and they have done the chip timing again for us in 2010 and 2011.

Our race took place today and all went well - I think Racemaster is FAB - our 5 mile race started at 10.45 and as I printed out the first 150 finishers I noticed that my watch said 11.45. Pretty good to have the results on view in just an hour.

As well as chip timing our event, Sport Systems manage all our entries for us through an online entries website which they custom-built to complement our own website and all the postal entries. Each week I get an up-to-date Audit Trail Report telling me how many entries we have and noting all the financial side including all the cheques that have been banked for us. Now I can concentrate more on the organisational aspects of the event without worrying about the administration which I know is being well looked after.
