The Tonbridge Half Marathon is organised jointly by the Tonbridge Rotary Club and the Tonbridge Lions Club to raise monies for the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, Kent Air Ambulance and other local charities.  Runneres are also encouraged to raise money for their own chosen charities.

The event is run under UK Athletics Rules, and St. John Ambulance provide a first class medical support.  Last year’s inaugural event was a great success with an 86% approval rate on Runners World.  93% said they would do the event again!

Dame Kelly Holmes started the 2011 event, presented medals to the majority of finishers and prizes to the various winners and hopes to be with us again in 2012.  The crowd support around the course was brilliant, particularly in Leigh.  The venue is easy to reach by train or car and there is ample parking close to the start.  Sussex Sport Photography will be taking professional photos which can be purchased online after the event.

In its inaugural year, the Tonbridge Half Marathon reached its 1000 limit a month before the event.  This year, the limit has been raised to 1500 entrants, but don’t leave it too late to enter, to avoid disappointment.

“"Hi guys, Just wanted to drop you a quick line to say thanks for a fantastic day yesterday.  From start to finish we were looked after and made to feel special, a really nice feeling for us running virgins . . . I think the whole of Leigh must have turned out to cheer us through the village, what a buzz you get from that.  And what about the crowd down the finish straight and the welcoming sight and smile of Dame Kelly standing on the finish line to greet us.  Memories I'll treasure and never forget . . . Once again a huge thank you to everyone involved."  Howard 2011
